Sergeant First Class Moshe Ohioan

Sergeant First Class Moshe Ohioanסמ”ר משה אוחיון ז”ל

Moshe was born and raised in Afula, Israel. Growing up, Moshe was an excellent basketball player and won many awards playing sports.

In late 1992 he was drafted into the IDF and stationed in the “Golani” Brigade (part of the military infantry corps).

During his Service, Moshe’s girlfriend missed him dearly. They wrote letters to each other often and after his death in Lebanon as a result of an operational accident, she gave his family all the letters.

The song “the last letter” was written from lines taken from the letters Moshe wrote to his beloved and performed by the Idan Reichel Project.

The Last Letter

My loved one, you asked me to write you a song
Maybe Just a Chorus
I am not that talented
I hope you appreciate my attempts

My loved one,
The snow fell here tonight
very romantically
I wanted to send you some flakes
In the last letter

Don’t cry over me
I am here willingly smiling
take care of yourself for me
take care of Yaron
Today is dad’s birthday
tell him I love him dearly
Yours, Moshe, your lost son in Lebanon.
