KOSHER FOOD POLICIES (Jewish Dietary Laws)
for Bender JCC Communal Areas

Part of what it means to be a Jewish organization and an inclusive one is to provide food that can be consumed by the broadest range of members.

Thank you for your cooperation in adhering to the following policies:

  • Meat may not be eaten in public areas of Center facilities unless it is served by an approved kosher caterer for a Bender JCC sponsored or private event.
  • Shellfish and pork are not permitted at Center
  • Pareve, vegetarian, and dairy foods are permitted.
  • Any food provided by the Center, including vending machines and Aramark products is certified Kosher.

GLOSSARY

  • Kosher refers to a set of dietary laws dealing with the foods that Jewish people are permitted to eat and how those foods must be prepared according to ritual law.
  • Meat refers to any dish or product that contains chicken or red It does not include fish. For people who keep kosher, meat may not be prepared with or consumed with diary.
  • Dairy refers to any dish or product that contains milk or milk For people who keep kosher, dairy may not be prepared with or consumed with meat.
  • Pareve refers to any dish or product that does not contain dairy or meat (as defined above). This category includes all fruits, vegetables, and fish.
