Born in Washington and raised in Arlington, Virginia, Buckhantz attended Washington-Lee High School, and received his BS degree in communications from James Madison University where, in1995, he was honored with the schools’ Distinguished Alumni Award. A veteran television and radio sportscaster, Buckhantz has had an Em my-award winning career that began in Harrisonburg,Virginia, with stops in Chattanooga and Nashville, Tennessee, Atlanta, Georgia and to his native Washington, DC, where for 13 years he was the sports director and lead anchor at Fox owned WTIG-TV. His play-by-play work includes NFL games on Fox, radio voice of the United States Naval Academy football from 1991-97 and, since 1997, the television play-by-play voice of the NBA’s Washington Wizards. Buckhantz is involved in numerous charities, and since 1996 has been the spokesperson for the Steve Buckhantz/St. Jude Celebrity golf classic, which raises more than $150,000 annually for research and care at the Memphis, Tennessee Children’s Hospital.
