Richard Schwartz has excelled in sports. and medicine-two fields that demand focus, perseverance and heart. His competitive rowing career spans 39 years. At Cornell University, he rowed varsity crew and, while earning his medical degree; coached the freshman team. He won a gold medal for the U.S. for Four Oared Crew, Elite Division, at the 1961 Maccabiah Games in Tel Aviv. During 8 years of cardiology training in Washington, and continuing as he built a practice, Dr. Schwartz rowed competitively in 7 international competitions. He is an author, sports medicine consultant and physician to the Georgeotwn University Crew, Potomac Boat Club and high school crews.
