Lee Weinberg learned to play basketball in high school, serving as team captain and manager of a team in the all-female league sponsored by the Jewish Community Center at 16th and Q Streets. In 1927 she went on to become a member of the Arcadians, Washington’s first women’s professional basketball team, heralded in newspapers at that time as “Washington’s Only Pro Girl Basketball Team.” Weinberg has volunteered for the Jewish Council for the Aging (JCA) since 1988; she was selected as “JCA Volunteer of the Year” in 1994.
