Hyman “Hymie” Perlo
Hyman Perlo is recognized for his early athletic successes and for his dedication to the community. At Roosevelt High School, Perlo captained the basketball team and the All-High Basketball team. He also was named to the Washington Metropolitan Basketball and Washington High School Basketball Halls of Fame. Considered one of the greatest high school athletes ever in the D.C. school system, Perlo attracted numerous college scholarships. He chose instead to serve in World War II, during which he suffered a leg injury that ended his basketball career. Perlo later served as Director of Community Relations for the former Capital Centre.
