Alan Sherman is honored as a champion of US-Israel sports relations. Over the past 25 years, he has been dedicated to and active in the World Maccabiah Games, serving as General and All Sports Chairman of the US Maccabiah Team. He has been instrumental in sending American teams to Israel and Israeli teams (both disabled and non-disabled) to the US to tour and play. Since 1973, he has served as a vice-president of Maccabi USA/ Sports for Israel, liaison to the Israel Olympic Committee and the Israel Sports federation for many years and is one of the original sponsors and supporters of the Israel Tennis Centers. He is currently chairman of the International Jewish Sports Hall of fame and president of the American friends of Wingate Institute. In 1981, he conceived of and co-founded the North American Maccabi Youth Games, a now hugely successful international “under 16” competition.
