Federation’s Sara & Samuel J. Lessans Good Deeds Week
Be the GOOD you want to see in the world!
Good Deeds Day is an annual, international celebration of Doing Good!
Join the Bender JCC for the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington’s Sara & Samuel J. Lessans Good Deeds Week! Since 2007, Good Deeds Week celebrates the value and importance of giving back to the community we live in.
This year’s Good Deeds Week will be focusing on food insecurity. The Bender JCC will be offering 3 days to volunteer your time and also includes an option to give back from home. Registration is free but we ask that you register in advance. This program is open to all ages but children 12 and under must have adult supervision at all times. Children over 2 will be required to wear masks.
Sunday, April 11 | 8:30am-11:15am | In Person
Sunday, April 11 | 9:00am-11:00am | At Home/Drop off
IN PERSON: We will gather in small shifts outside the Bender JCC to make bag lunches (peanut butter sandwiches and snack) for families in need- The only thing you need to do is bring your family! Select a 45-minute shift between 8:30am and 11:15am. (Inclement weather options will be provided if necessary). This event will be held outside and socially distanced in accordance with Montgomery County guidelines.
AT HOME/DROP OFF: We are looking for volunteers to make sandwiches in your home (you purchase the ingredients) and drop them off to the JCC between 9am-11am. Please register in advance so we know how many drop offs to expect. Instructions for the sandwiches and drop off information will be sent to you by Thursday, April 8.
Monday, April 12 | 12:00-2:00 | Food Prep
Tuesday, April 13 | 4:00-6:00 | Food Packing
Delivering Good is a partnership between the Bender JCC, the Montgomery County Food Council, and Montgomery County School System designed to deliver food packages directly to county residents who are unable to travel to other distribution sites.
Volunteers will sign up to help organize produce and shelf-stable items to be delivered to residents’ homes. This is a fabulous opportunity for families, teens needing SSL hours, and anyone looking for ongoing Tikkun Olam(Healing the World).
This project will take place inside the JCC and will abide by all County Covid Safety guidelines. Due to space restrictions, if you plan to attend as a family, each family member must be registered separately.
Federation’s Good Deeds Week is made possible by Drs. Ellen & Stuart Lessans, in loving memory of Sara & Samuel J. Lessans.
