Statement on the Shooting at the Capital Jewish Museum
The Bender JCC is horrified by the fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday evening outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC, and we mourn the loss of the two Israeli Embassy staff members killed in the attack. Our hearts are with their families and loved ones and with everyone in our Greater Washington Jewish Community impacted by this heinous and tragic act of antisemitic violence.
JShield – the Greater Washington Jewish Community’s security network – has reported to us that the perpetrator and sole suspect was identified as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez from Chicago and is now in police custody.
According to law enforcement, there is no additional threat to the public.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Bender JCC has contacted our local district of the Montgomery County Police Department, who will provide additional patrols in our neighborhood today and through the weekend.
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns, and always report any suspicious activity.
