Martin Gorewitz

At Woodrow Wilson High School, Marty was a six-time letterman in football and baseball. He was an All Metropolitan Baseball shortstop and City Championship winner. In his senior year, his batting average was .415.

Marty was awarded a baseball scholarship to the University of Maryland, where he was a three-year starter. He represented Washington, DC in various national tournaments.

After college, Marty picked up tennis and became a 4.5 player. He participated in numerous tournaments.

Marty devoted his career to assisting others for the United Planning Organization, working on the Cardoza Projects and inner city renewal programs. He developed and co-owned the first Washington, DC disco, The Tomfoolery, and the city’s first floating restaurant, The Gangplank. Both venues were acknowledged for hosting and contributing to charitable causes.
