A successful businessman, this self-proclaimed “sports nut,” Abe Pollin decided to pursue his avocation in 1964 by purchasing the Baltimore (later Washington) Bullets, making Pollin today the longest tenured owner in the NBA. In 1972, Pollin secured an NHL franchise that now plays as The Washington Capitals. In 1973, Pollin became the creator and builder of the state-of-the-art Capital Centre, the area’s premier sports and entertainment facility. Beloved fort his many civic, humanitarian and philanthropic achievements, Pollin has added an extra dimension to the life of the entire community.
