Bender JCC Awarded Inaugural State Grant to Increase Energy Efficiency

The funding will support climate progress and environmental sustainability, while making the Bender JCC’s facility more comfortable and efficient.

Rockville, MD, July 29, 2025 – The Bender JCC of Greater Washington (Bender JCC) proudly announced today it has been awarded a $794,685 grant as part of the Maryland Energy Administration’s (MEA) inaugural “Electrifying Community Buildings” program. The Bender JCC is one of only 12 organizations in Maryland to receive this impactful funding, intended to reduce energy use and increase efficiency in communal buildings. 

“We are deeply grateful to Governor Wes Moore for his leadership and commitment to climate progress through investment in community buildings like the Bender JCC,” said Josh Bender, CEO. “The Electrifying Community Buildings grant is a game-changer for our community, helping us to become more energy efficient, reduce long-term utility costs, move toward energy independence and sustainability, and increase the comfort of our members and staff.”

Through the transformative and significant funding, the Bender JCC will  make critical upgrades to its building, initially constructed in 1969, and reinvest in its infrastructure, including upgrades to:

The Bender JCC’s strong partnership with Montgomery County Green Bank and their team of engineers was instrumental in securing the grant and laying the foundation for a more resilient, efficient, and environmentally responsible building.
