Ryan Martin
Ryan Martin is honored as an inspiring and accomplished wheelchair tennis athlete. Permanently paralyzed by a gunshot wound to the spine in 1987, Martin persevered to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah in June and play in his first wheelchair tennis tournament in July that same year. By 1988, he was ranked third in the Men’s “D” Division. By 1989, he was ranked # 1 in the Men’s “C” Division with a 25 – 1 record. In 1991, undefeated the entire year, he was crowned champion in the “A” Division -the youngest ever. In 1993, Martin won the gold medal in singles and doubles competitions in the 14th Maccabiah Games in Israel.
