Bender JCC of Greater Washington Launches Transformational Lower-Level Renovation to Expand Program Space
Rockville, MD, February 25, 2026– The Bender JCC of Greater Washington is proud to announce a major renovation of a lower level, creating new, flexible program space. This strategic investment is designed to support the continued growth of Lessans Camp JCC while strengthening the Center’s ability to serve children, families, and the broader community year-round.
The project is made possible through the extraordinary generosity of individual donors, foundation partners, and government grants, all of whom are committed to expanding access to the JCC’s inclusive and wellness‑focused mission.
The renovation will transform the underutilized lower level into a vibrant, multi-purpose area featuring upgraded classrooms, meeting rooms, and dedicated space for youth enrichment, wellness classes, and community gatherings.
Additional upgrades will include enhanced accessibility features, modern lighting, updated flooring, and gathering spaces that foster creativity, connection, and community. The new space will allow Lessans Camp JCC to operate more efficiently and consistently, regardless of weather or season.

The expanded lower-level footprint will allow the Center to:
· Provide high-quality, dedicated indoor space for camp activities and youth programming
· Launch new workforce development and adult education classes
· Expand health and wellness offerings, including fitness and mindfulness programs
· Provide additional meeting space for local nonprofits and community groups
Renovation work began this month, with completion anticipated by May. During construction, Bender JCC programs will continue with minimal disruption.
