Tatami: Co-directed by Israeli and Iranian filmmakers, Guy Nattiv and Zar Amir Ebrahimi, Tatami combines the thrill of a sports drama with the excitement of a political thriller. Discover the gripping story of an Iranian female judo athlete and her coach who are ordered by their government to fake an injury and withdraw from a World Championship match to avoid competing against an Israeli opponent.
After the evening screening, stay for a dynamic talkback and audience Q&A featuring experts on the region, who will help unpack the film’s powerful themes of identity, political pressure, antisemitism and resilience.
Arash Azizi will be our guest for the post-film talkback. Azizi is a writer in New York City, lectures at Yale and writes for the Atlantic, as well as other publications. Author of The Shadow Commander: Soleimani, the US and Iran’s Global Ambitions (2020) and What Iranians Want: Women, Life, Freedom (2024). He has also written and produced movies and regularly covers film festivals around the world.
