When They Wander or Run Away: Elopement and Water Safety for Parents

49% of children with Autism and 26.7% of individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities elope (often from a safe environment), more than a third cannot communicate their name, address or phone number. Officers from the Montgomery County Police Autism/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), Alzheimer’s and Dementia Outreach Unit and Pathfinders for Autism will present a critical training that addresses reasons why individuals might elope, safety preventive measures parents and caregivers can put into place and what information is most beneficial for police if your loved one goes missing.
