J-Talks: Something Wonderful – Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Broadway Revolution with Guest Author Todd Purdum

Monday, November 23 l 2:00 PM l Cost: $10

Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II were at the forefront of the great age of songwriting, creating such classic Broadway musicals as Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. They became cultural icons whose work largely defined post-war America on stage, screen, television, and radio. Even now, decades later, their classic songs retain their popularity and emotional power.

Please meet Todd Purdum, our guest author. He took a brief break from writing about politics, bringing his passion, extensive research and mastery of storytelling to his latest book, Something Wonderful: Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Broadway Revolution. Purdum is a contributing editor at Vanity Fair and a senior writer at Politico, having previously worked at The New York Times for more than 20 years. There he served as White House correspondent, diplomatic correspondent, and Los Angeles bureau chief. A graduate of Princeton University, he lives in LA with his wife, Dee Dee Myers, and their two children.
