Coming of Age in Maryland

Coming of Age in Maryland offers monthly activities, excursions, and special events to members aged 60 and over. Activities include theater, museums, lectures, performances, “Food and Fun” restaurant outings that feature a game component, an annual health and wellness expo, and much more. Adult Living & Learning

Gateways ESOL Classes

Gateways Header

Gateways is a comprehensive program for speakers of other languages (ESOL). Immigrant seniors from several countries (predominantly the Former Soviet Union) learn English from a staff of dedicated volunteers. The Gateways program is made possible with support from the Montgomery Coalition for Adult English Literacy and The Marinus and Minna B. Koster Foundation, Inc.

ESOL 60+ years

Citizenship

Citizenship classes are offered at the Bender JCC through Baltimore City Community College.

Wellness

In the Bender JCC’s continuing effort to care for members in body, mind, and spirit, the Center offers a number of wellness programs and activities for individuals of all ages, with an emphasis on aging and senior wellness.

The Bender Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington Internal Light Low Vision Support Group for Senior Adults – Join us to hear the latest research on cataracts, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and more as well as learn from one another on ways to improve our quality of life.

This group meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at the Ring House, 1801 E. Jefferson St., Rockville, MD 20852 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Volunteering

The Bender JCC depends on the time and dedication of its enthusiastic volunteers. Each year, over 500 members donate their time and expertise in every facet of the Center. Volunteering not only enables participants to give something back to their community, but it provides opportunities to meet new people, share talents, and have fun. Games, Clubs & Interest Groups

From singers on stage to singers in the shower, all senior singers are welcome at the Bender JCC senior adult chorus. Led by Frieda, the chorus sings a varied repertoire of Yiddish, Hebrew, and Latino tunes, as well as some Russian and American song favorites! If you love to sing, you’re welcome to join!

Chorus meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 1:00 – 2:30 PM.

Song Circle meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 1:00 – 2:30 PM, followed by refreshments.

Song sheets are provided and we sing mainly American folk songs.

The Jewish Chorus meets on all the other Tuesdays from 1:00 – 2:30 PM.

History lovers unite every fourth Thursday at 1:00 PM at the Bender JCC in a club devoted to all things historical. All history buffs welcome!

Get your fix with the Bender JCC Scrabble Club every Thursday at 1:00 PM in the JCC Lobby.

No experience necessary, new players are always welcome.

This course if for newcomers to the game and players who need a refresher.  It will cover the fundamentals of modern bidding, play of the hand and some defensive principles.
